A security interest (SI) holder is any person or organization designated as a lien holder on a title. Anyone who holds an SI in a vehicle—or wants to apply for one—first must be entered into the system as a typical customer (see Adding a New Customer) or as an SI holder (see below).
The system allows you to associate a customer with a vehicle as the SI holder or as an SI applicant regardless whether the customer record has been marked with a formal SI Holder designation. The main reason you would mark a customer record with such a designation is to help you group and find the major SI holders that you use. You can filter customer searches to exclude those marked as SI holders or to show only those marked as SI holders. For more information on filtering customer searches, see the Customer tab of the Search Window.
Note: You must have the appropriate level of permissions to mark the customer record with the SI holder designation. Otherwise, the Security Interest Holder check box is not available; contact DMV to add the SI holder in that event. DMV maintains an official SI holder list.
The Search window appears.
The Customer Maintenance window appears.
Tip: For specific information about the individual fields on the window, see the Customer Maintenance Window.
The SI holder information is saved and the window closes.
