Titling an Out-of-State Vehicle Previously Titled in Kansas

If a vehicle previously titled in Kansas was moved out of state and then moved back into Kansas, follow this procedure to transfer the title.

To title an out-of-state vehicle previously titled in Kansas
  1. If the previous Kansas title is still active in the system, cancel it.

  2. After you cancel the title, you must edit the vehicle record to add the previous out-of-state ownership information.
    1. On the VRT menu, select Manage Vehicle.
    2. On the Search window, enter the VIN to find the vehicle and click Search.
    3. On the list of search results, double-click the vehicle you want.
    4. On the Vehicle Maintenance window, click the Ownership tab.
    5. Select Add Ownership.
    6. Enter the owner information on the out-of-state title.

      This information will appear as the previous owner on the new title.

    7. Click Save.
  3. Complete the title and registration transaction using the current owner.
