Transferring a Plate from One Vehicle to Another

You can transfer a plate from one vehicle to another or from one owner to another. For example, a customer might want to move a personalized plate from one vehicle to another that the customer owns, or, upon selling a vehicle to another person, the seller might want to transfer the personalized plate that was on that vehicle to its new owner.

You can transfer a plate while completing the following procedures:

• Issuing a New Title and Registration.
• Updating an Active Registration.
• Reinstating a Registration.

  Important: Select the appropriate vehicle usage prior to assigning a plate to the vehicle.

To transfer a plate

1. Select the Registration Detail tab on one of the following windows to open the inventory plate search:
   • Title and Registration window
   • Update Registration window
   • Reinstate Registration window
2. Under Registration Plates, click Get Plate.

   The Get Plate window appears.

3. Under Plate #, enter the plate number you want to transfer.
4. Click Get Plate.

   A notification message appears that the plate has been previously assigned.

5. Click OK to close the notification message.
6. Click OK.

   The plate number appears on the registration application.
