Assigning a Specific Plate

You can assign a specific personalized or non-personalized plate to a vehicle. To assign a specific plate, it must either a) exist in inventory, b) have been inserted into inventory using the Insert Plate function, or c) be transferred from another owner. If you do not assign a specific plate, one is automatically assigned based on the next available plate in inventory.

Unless the customer wants a specific plate from inventory (for example, a personalized plate), you should allow the system to auto assign a plate. To transfer a plate from another owner, see Transferring a Plate from One Vehicle to Another. To insert a specific plate into inventory, see Inserting a Plate. To assign a specific plate from inventory, see the procedure below.

Note: If the customer wants a personalized plate that does not exist in inventory, you must complete a separate application to order the plate. For more information, see Ordering a Special Plate. When the plate is received into inventory, use this procedure to assign it to a vehicle.
