Ordering a Special Plate

Standard plates are issued to the customer at the time of title and registration. When the special plate application is processed and the plates are delivered, a notification letter is generated and sent to the customer. The customer then has 12 months to exchange the standard plates for their special plates. For more information, see Updating an Active Registration.

You can also complete the following supplemental procedures when you order a special plate:

To order a special plate
  1. On the Plate menu, select Special Order.

    The Plate Prequalifier window appears.

  2. Enter the identification number for the customer for whom you want to order a plate and click Continue.

    If you do not know the customer identification number, click Customer Search and use the Search window to find the customer you want.

    The Order Special Plate window appears.

  3. On the Application tab, in the Plate Request area, in the Plate Type field, select the type of plate you want to order.
  4. In the County field, select the county from which the order is originating.
  5. In the Plate Configuration field, select the configuration you want (plate type, size, and number of plates).
  6. If necessary, enter up to three requests for personalized text in the order of preference. If you enter personalized text, you must also enter the meaning of the text.

  7. In the Managed Location list, select the correct county for the customer.
  8. On the Mailing tab, in the Delivery Address area, in the Deliver To field, select the location where the plates should be delivered.
  9. If the plate is a qualifying plate, enter the supporting documentation:
    1. Click the Documents tab.
    2. Click Add.
    3. Under Document Description, click the type of documentation provided.
    4. Optionally, enter the document reference number and a comment.
  10. Click Pay Now.

    MOVRS checks for errors. If you need help resolving errors, see Errors, Discretionary Edits, and Warnings. When all errors are resolved or if no errors are found, the payment processing application opens.

  11. Enter the payment information.

    After you finish processing the payment, the transaction is complete.
