Understanding Ownership Status

The Ownership Status field appears in the Owner and Transfer on Death Designee areas of the Relate Customers tab on some MOVRS title and registration windows.

Ownership Status field

This field enables you to indicate how multiple listed customers of a particular type (Owner or Transfer on Death Designee) relate to the vehicle in question. You must select a value from the Ownership Status field for all but the last listed customer to indicate whether either or both of customers before and after the operator are considered owners of the vehicle.

If either customer is considered the owner, then the listed customer would have a value of OR in the Ownership Status field. If both customers are considered owners, then first listed customer is assigned a Ownership Status value of AND. In both situations, the final listed customer has no value defined in the Ownership Status field because this field specifies only the relationship between the customer to whom it is assigned and the customer listed immediately after that.

MOVRS sends registration materials to the first listed customer and calculates taxes based upon the county in which the first listed customer resides. Any owners listed in the Owners section appear on the title.

The table below illustrates how MOVRS interprets ANDs and ORs when used in the Ownership Status field.
