Voiding a Title

You can void a title if it was issued by mistake and you want to reinstate the previous ownership.

Important: You can void a title to go back one ownership only, and only if there is a previous ownership recorded in the system. When you void a title, the corresponding registration is also voided. If no previous title exists to reinstate, you must cancel the title. See Cancelling a Title.

To void a title
  1. On the VRT menu, select Title Transactions > Void Ownership.

The Void Title Prequalifier window appears.

  2. Enter the date.
  3. Enter the VIN or title number.
  4. Click Continue.

When the vehicle that you entered is identified, the Void Ownership window appears.

Note: If you entered a partial identification number or if the vehicle or customer you entered is not found, the Search window appears. For more information, see Entering Information on a Prequalifier Window.

  5. Review the title and previous ownership information.
  6. To void the title, click Commit.

The title is voided and the previous ownership title is reinstated.
