Logins and Profiles

The functionality that is available to you in MOVRS is dependent upon the permissions your system administrator associates with your login account. When setting up your login account, your system administrator grants it permissions by associating it with one or more roles, groups, and locations that the system administrator has defined in the system. The roles, groups, and locations associated with your login account:

For example, your login may allow you access to one menu (and its windows) but not another. If your login allows you access to a particular window, it may allow you access to some functions and counties but not others.

Note: This example may not apply to you. Your system administrator determines whether login accounts control access to the system at this level of granularity.

A "role" as defined in the system by your system administrator is a more specific concept than the generic work role concept described in MOVRS User Roles and Application Features. From the system administrator's perspective, a "role" controls access to various parts of the application and is necessary to ensure the security of the system:

In addition to your login account, you also have one or more profiles. A profile determines which location, window, cash drawer, printer, and other options you will use for the transactions you process after selecting that profile. If you have more than one profile, you can switch between them as needed; for example, when moving from one window or location to another (see Switching Your User Profile). You can set up and modify your own profiles (see Adding a User Profile and Modifying a User Profile), whereas only a system administrator can set up or modify your login account. The options that are available on the Profiles window (for example, which locations you can access) are determined by the roles, groups, and locations that your system administrator has associated with your login account.
