Moving a Personalized Plate from One Vehicle to Another

Moving a personalized plate requires two transactions: one to update each registration.

To remove the personalized plate from the first vehicle
  1. On the VRT menu, select Registration Transactions > Update Registration.

    The Update Registration Prequalifier window appears.

  2. Enter the vehicle or customer identification number associated with the vehicle from which you want to remove the plate and specify the type of identification associated with the number you entered.

    Tip: If you do not know the vehicle or customer identification number, click Vehicle Search or Customer Search to open the Search window and find the vehicle or customer you want.

  3. Click Continue.

    When the vehicle record is identified, the Update Registration window appears for the first vehicle.

    Note: If you entered a partial identification number or if the vehicle or customer you entered is not found, the Search window appears. For help completing the window, see Entering Information on a Prequalifier Window.

  4. Select the Registration Detail tab.
  5. In the Registration Plates area, in the row corresponding to the old plate, in the Plate Disposition column, select Removed.

    An additional row appears.

  6. Click Get Plate on the new row.

    The Get Plate window appears.

  7. In the Plate area, select the appropriate plate configuration description and county for the new plate.
  8. Enter the plate number of the new plate that you want for the first vehicle or click Auto Assign # to assign a plate with a system-generated plate number.
  9. If you will be transferring the personalized plate to a different owner, then click the Documents tab and scan in the first owner's signed relinquishment document.

    Note: The system will not allow a personalized plate to be transferred to a new owner within 31 days of the first owner's registration expiration unless a signed Personalized Plate Relinquishment document has been received and scanned into the system.

  10. Do one of the following:
  11. If you clicked Pay Now in the previous step, enter the payment information.

    After you finish processing the payment, the Finalize Transactions window appears.

  12. If you clicked Pay Now in step 9, then in the line of the transaction you completed, click Finalize.
To assign the personalized plate to the second vehicle

If the second vehicle is not yet registered, assign the personalized plate as part of a title and registration transaction. For more information, see Issuing a New Title and Registration. If the second vehicle is already registered, assign the personalized plate by updating the registration, as explained in the procedure below.

  1. On the VRT menu, select Registration Transactions > Update Registration.

    The Update Registration Prequalifier window appears.

  2. Enter the vehicle identification number or customer identification number associated with the vehicle to which you want to assign the plate.

    Tip: If you do not know the vehicle or customer identification number, click Vehicle Search or Customer Search to open the Search window and find the vehicle or customer you want.

  3. Click Continue.

    When the vehicle record is identified, the Update Registration window appears.

    Note: If you entered a partial identification number or if the vehicle or customer you entered is not found, the Search window appears. For more information, see Entering Information on a Prequalifier Window.

  4. In the Registration Plates area, in the row corresponding to the old plate, in the Plate Disposition column, select Removed.

    An additional row appears.

  5. Click Get Plate on the new row.

    The Get Plate window appears.

  6. Under Plate #, enter the personalize plate text from the plate that you removed during the first procedure.
  7. Click Get Plate.

    You get an error that the plate has been previously assigned.

  8. Click OK.

    The plate number appears on the updated registration information.

  9. At the bottom of the Update Registration window, click Pay Now.

    MOVRS checks for errors. If you need help resolving errors, see Errors, Discretionary Edits, and Warnings. When all errors are resolved or if no errors are found, the payment processing application opens.

  10. Enter the payment information.

    Tip: If you need specific help with the cash drawer, see the payment processing application documentation.

    After you finish processing the payment, the Finalize Transaction window appears.

  11. In the line of the transaction you completed, click Finalize.

    The Generate Credentials window appears.

  12. Click Generate.

    The documents produced in the transaction generate and print.

    Note: If you finalize multiple transactions at once, credentials are generated automatically.
